Our Capitol Violence Statement

Yesterday was a sad day in our country. A group of humans stormed the Capitol with violent rage, resulting in the death of four people. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost family members because of this dangerous attempt to undermine our great democracy.

As we mourn the day after and reckon with where our country stands; The Better World Challenge team would like to offer you this. A reminder of not only how fragile our democracy can be, but the importance of leadership. President Trump and his followers have failed to uphold the American values of truth and a peaceful transfer of power.

It is more important now than ever to fact-check what we share on the internet and spread love, not hate. Our nation does not need more division; we need to unite for a shared vision. A vision that includes and treats all humans with the same respect.

No longer is it okay to accept the status quo of criminality. Those who broke into the Capitol last night should be met with swift justice. As MLK said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

We have an opportunity to move forward as a country, strive for equitable leadership, and build a better world for all humans through the power of democracy.
